"Polish Roads to Independence 1914–1922" is an interactive journey through historical maps. This is a multimedia presentation of the past, designed to be a valuable didactic aid in learning history. This unique historical atlas consists of 30 digital maps presenting a dynamic spatio-temporal perspective of the Poles, that in 1914-1922 fought their way back to independence, reclaiming Poland’s borders and defending it after 123 years of partitions.

The Interactive Historical Atlas is addressed mainly to the young generation and history enthusiasts. The authors attach great importance to both the educational value of the application and the methodology of visual history, creating a unique source of knowledge and entertainment. It is here that you will see an animated account of the Battle of Warsaw, hear the voice of Józef Piłsudski and learn about the two visions of rebuilding Poland.

Accompanying the emergence of the Second Polish Republic, you will traverse five routes of independence. Each trail is one history lesson with dedicated digital maps and extensive historical knowledge in the form of multimedia, photos and source documents. Look for them in 78 time capsules hidden in different places on each map.

The interactive Historical Atlas " Polish Roads to Independence 1914–1922" was prepared by the team of the UMCS Institute of History in Lublin under the scientific direction of prof. Jan Pomorski. “The project – named “Polish Roads to Independence” – is financed under the Program of the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
